“#Alive” was filmed a year before countries worldwide were locking down due to the COVID-19 pandemic. But its depiction of isolation and fear of the unknown mirrors what millions of people went through (minus the zombies) in this 2020 thriller.
“Seoul Vibe” is full of backstabbing, murder and mayhem. Director Moon Hyun-sung does a commendable job at keeping the plot moving, but he knows that the wild car chases are the key to this movie.
Director Yeon Sang-Ha (“Train to Busan”) adapted “Hellbound” from his own webtoon of the same name. He makes it clear that cults are the true sinners, which manipulate people’s lives with fear. And that hell isn’t necessarily a place foreign to us, because it’s where we may already be living.
