Has anyone else been watching “Police University“? I’ve been waiting for this K-drama, which stars two of my favorite idol actors: Jinyoung and Krystal!

The series also stars Cha Tae Hyun as a professor at South Korea’s National Police Academy, who takes Kang Seon Ho (Jinyoung) and Oh Kang Hee (Krystal) under his wings. Seon Ho is a former hacker who’s interested in Kang Hee, who dreams of becoming a police officer. So, can you guess what school Seon Ho will enroll at to be near Kang Hee? hehe

Anyhow, here’s a brief intro to Jinyoung and Krystal.

KRYSTAL

Born: October 24, 1994 in California

Korean name: 정수정 (Jung Soo Jung)

What she’s known for: While the Jung family was vacationing in South Korea, Krystal and her older sister, Jessica, were scouted by S.M. Entertainment. Krystal was only five years old at the time, so her parents told them Krystal was too young. (Jessica was allowed to train in Seoul and became one of the original members of the iconic Girls’ Generation.) At 11, she would become a trainee. Krystal made her debut with f(x) in 2009.

Acting: Krystal began acting in 2010, when she made her K-drama debut in MBC’s “More Charming By the Day.” But her breakthrough part was in 2013’s “The Heirs,” where she played a fast-talking rich girl who befriends Park Shin Hye’s female lead character. She made a cameo appearance in “Legend of the Blue Sea,” which starred her “The Heirs” co-star, Lee Min Ho. And she won critical praise for her work in 2017’s “Prison Playbook,” where she played the loyal friend/ex-girlfriend of an imprisoned baseball player.

Did you know… : that Krystal was a competitor on Kim Yuna’s figure skating show, “Kiss & Cry”? Even better, this multi-talented celebrity won first place!

JINYOUNG

Born: November 18, 1991 in Chungju

Korean name: 정진영 (Jung Jin Young)

What he’s known for: These days, Jinyoung is well regarded as a seasoned actor. But prior to his screen debut, he was the leader of B1A4. The group debuted in 2011. A skilled composer, Jinyoung penned many of the quintet’s songs. In 2018, Jinyoung and Baro (who’s also an actor) opted not to renew their contracts with WM Entertainment.

Acting: He had studied acting as a trainee and made his professional debut in 2013 in tvN’s “She is Wow.” And in 2014, he won a co-starring role in the feature film “Miss Granny,” as the titular character’s heavy metal-playing grandson. Other roles included “Warm and Cozy,” “If We Were a Season” and “Wind-Bell.” Jinyoung followed those series up with prominent roles in “Love in the Moonlight” and “My First First Love.” He played the second male lead in both. I won’t spoil the ending of either of those K-dramas for you. But I will say that there were quite a few viewers who were #TeamJinyoung all the way!

Did you know… : that Jinyoung was a contestant (Cowardly Lion) on “The King of Mask Singer“? His rendition of this song is so lovely and leaves the listener feeling happy, but also a little heartbroken. He’s just that good!

Are you watching “Police University” on KOCOWA? What are you loving (or even not loving) about the series?
