Peninsula Chicago

Located in the heart of the Magnificent Mile, the Peninsula Chicago is a gorgeous hotel. What made it stand out for me wasn’t the room (which was nice, but not extraordinary). Rather, it was the fabulous indoor pool with a gorgeous view of the city. I don’t think I’ve ever stayed at a hotel with a pool and deck as lovely.

Actually, the view was pretty great from our room as well. We could see the famous Water Tower Place lit up in the evening. And for me, Chicago’s skyline is second to none.

[2021 update] Since our original visit, the hotel has spent almost $40 million to spruce up the place, giving it a fresh look. There are power outlets and built-in phone chargers by bedside, which is a must these days with families needing to charge multiple phones and tablets.

Just the facts: Peninsula Chicago, 108 E Superior St, Chicago, IL 60611 (312-337-2888). We took advantage of a discounted rate. For two nights, we paid just under $750 for the room. It was inclusive of taxes and valet parking.

From their website:

The Peninsula Chicago is the five-star hotel that brought traditional Asian service to a city already renowned for the warmth of its hospitality. The hotel has become an integral part of Chicago life and is considered the top choice for everything from accommodation to celebrations and corporate events. For this, the hotel credits its strong links to both the local community and international heritage. The Peninsula Chicago has proudly received a Forbes Travel Guide Five-Star rating each year since its opening.
