One of 11 members of the group OMEGA X, Kevin (born Park Jin-woo) is making his leading man debut in the Boys’ Love (BL) K-drama “My Bias Is Showing!” You’d expect him to portray the K-pop idol of everyone’s dreams in this series, right? Nope. Here, Kevin tackled the role of a high school teacher who’s also Si-yeol’s biggest fanboy.
“As someone who’s usually the one being loved and supported by fans, it was so fun and interesting to take on the role of a fan with his own bias,” Kevin told K-Culture with Jae-Ha Kim. “Rather than focusing on Ae-joon’s occupation as a teacher, I thought about many ways to express someone who is a fan and has a deep love for his favorite idol. That process itself was very enjoyable.”
In this interview, Kevin discussed what he considered before accepting this role, the reality of K-Pop Demon Hunters, what he’s a fan of, and what he’d like to try next in his career.
This interview has been lightly edited for length and clarity.

Hi Kevin! Thank you for taking the time to do this interview. First things first. Can you tell your fans a little bit about the role that you play in “My Bias is Showing!”?
Hello! I play the role of Na Ae-joon, a huge fan of Si-yeol from the idol group A-One in “My Bias Is Showing!” It’s a character that finds joy in his tedious life through stanning his bias, Si-yeol.
This is your first starring role?
Yes, it’s my first time [doing a] full drama. The only other time I tried acting was for OMEGA X’s YouTube series, “OX Company,” where I played the role of a new employee who loves Crayon Shin-chan.
What was it about this series that made you want to tackle it?
One day, my company suggested that I try [out for] Na Ae-joon from “My Bias Is Showing!” because they thought this character resembled me in real life. So I read the script and gained the confidence that I’d be able to act this role well. I decided to try out for the role.
You debuted in 2019 as an idol in ENOi. Did you know at that time that you also wanted to be an actor?
Actually, acting was something I’ve wanted to try since I was in middle school. I’ve had a passion for both acting and singing, and now I get to fully experience both areas. It’s a great honor.
So many Korean entertainers are good at both music and acting. Did you have any professional acting training?
For this drama, I took acting lessons and practiced on my own a lot by really studying the character in order to become the perfect ‘Na Ae-joon.’
Did your experience as a K-pop idol help you when filming this show?
It definitely helped a lot! I was able to apply my own experience in communicating and connecting with fans as an idol when playing my character in the drama.

As a K-pop star, what are some of the things in the series that you felt was true to your experiences in the music world?
Since my role in the drama is a fan, my connection with my own fans actually helped me to act out Na Ae-joon quite naturally. I could especially empathize with Ae-joon intentionally hiding the fact that he’s a fan and distancing himself from Si-yeol, fearing that Si-yeol might feel uncomfortable if Ae-joon keeps approaching his bias.
What would you say is very different from the reality that you know as a musician?
One thing that’s different from reality would be that my bias approaches me first and flirts with me. (Laughs)
Have you ever been a huge fan of anyone like Ae-joon is for Si-yeol?
I thought I was not the type to become a huge fan of something. But recently, I’ve been into the animation “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba,” and now I’m purchasing its merchandise, too. I’m a big fan!
So much has been said about how South Korea doesn’t have a friendly climate for the LGBTQ+ community. As someone who lives in Korea, do you get the sense that citizens are more receptive to gay relationships now?
Korea has been considered somewhat conservative, but I believe people’s perceptions are changing widely and rapidly. There might be some who are still skeptical of the LGBTQ+ community, but as a women-centered market is expanding and strengthening, there are more positive and liberating changes in viewing same-sex relationships and the LGBTQ+ community.
Did you contemplate not accepting this role, because of what some people might view as controversial?
I never thought of turning down this role based on its genre of BL. However, there was a good amount of pressure to really pull off this character, based on an original webtoon. I wanted the audience to think, “Kevin has a new side I didn’t know, he’s really open to showcasing more new sides of himself,” after watching this drama. Also, I hope to satisfy the fans of the original webtoon through my performance in the drama adaptation.
You are the fourth member of Omega X to star in a BL drama. What is it about the genre that drew you to it?
After reading the original webtoon and the drama script for “My Bias Is Showing!,” I compared my real-life characteristics to those of Na Ae-joon. I felt confident in expressing and conveying the character’s personality well, so after much consideration, I decided to take the role.

Is acting something you want to pursue more of in the future?
I’ve been dreaming of acting for a long time, so yes, I plan to continue pursuing an acting career.
What kind of roles would you love to portray?
If given a chance, I would love to try playing a student in a drama about college romance, or a little brother who has great chemistry with a humorous big sister.
What are some of your favorite shows and films?
My personal favorite movie is The Conjuring series, and favorite drama is “When the Camellia Blooms.” I love thrilling horror movies, especially watching them on a big screen in a movie theater! I really enjoyed “When the Camellia Blooms” with its great story elements, amazing lines, and outstanding performance of the actors. I would love to take on a character who dedicates pure love, like Hwang Yong-sik, played by Kang Ha-neul.
When you were a child, what was the first career you dreamed of?
Ever since I was young, I dreamed of becoming an entertainer who could do both singing and acting, and I think I’m taking steps to achieve that dream.
In the U.S., everyone is crazy about the Netflix film KPop Demon Hunters. Did you think it depicted the K-pop life realistically, aside from the demon part, I mean!
Since its storyline features vengeful spirits, the demon, and the soul, there are definitely more fantasy and mysterious additions to the movie. But at the same time, it carries very realistic behind-the-scenes of K-pop, such as eating carbs to perform well and considering the tracklist for the next album. Most of all, we can sing on the stage all thanks to our fans’ love. I think that is the most realistic message from the movie.
Your fandom FOR X was very concerned about OMEGA X when the video of the group being abused by your former management company came to light. When something that traumatic happens, it can be difficult to handle. How did you deal with all of that?
Actually, not forcing myself to overcome difficult times or emotions helped me a lot. I remember just looking for solutions while accepting our reality and what had happened rather calmly. I constantly thought about the ways to meet our fans as soon as possible and to overcome this hard time. Having more realistic questions and finding answers to them soothed my mind very much.
2025 only has four months left in it. What do you hope to do before the end of the year?
Only four months left in 2025! After wrapping up the shooting for “My Bias Is Showing!,” I waited for its premiere with great excitement. Now that it is available for many domestic and international fans to enjoy, I’d love to make opportunities to visit fans of the drama in many countries.
If you could go back in time and say something to teenage Jin-woo before he became Kevin the K-pop idol, what would you want him to know?
Hey, Jin-woo! You have gained a lot of experience and skills over the years, but I think you’re still doubting yourself too much! Don’t doubt yourself, just love yourself. You have great potential, so have courage and push forward confidently! It’s not, “You can do it,” but “Just do it!”
Thank you so much, Kevin! I wish you the best of luck with your show!
Thank you very much! (Smiles)
