A boy’s first car

3rd birthday 2

Yes, this is what a five year old drives when he has a very indulgent grandmother and a scientist for a father.

When my son turned three years old, my mother bought him this battery-operated truck. I’m only half  joking when I say that it’s worth more than one of our real cars. Now that #SonOfJae has two years of driving experience under his belt, my husband decided it was time to trick out his ride with blue LED lights and a glowing blue switch. I have no idea what any of that means, other than the fact that when it’s dark out, the truck is lit up like it’s Christmas. (The irony, of course, is that our child is already in bed when it’s dark out.)

As for the photo on the left, that was taken in New York City’s Koreatown a few days before his third birthday. It has nothing to do with the truck. I just think he looks super cute (and oozes attitude) in the picture. 🙂

  1. :)))) I am sure you’ll be getting a lot of oooooohs and aaaaaahs from my boys! In fact, Calvin is now drooling over it! Hahahaha…

  2. What about the mini bar and swimming pool inside of the ride…?? Gotta be cool inside and out…this is the ride of a future K-pop star…!!

  3. Hey Jae! Can you tell Denton I’m in the market for a new car, as well? I want a tricked-out ride like Kyle’s!

  4. wow, haha I saw children in these when I was down in Busan. How did your mom know all the Korean kids are getting these nowadays?! 😉

  5. I’m a longtime fan and first time poster. I’m hoping to win the Babar dvd set. 😛 But I also wanted to say that I’ve been reading your stories for years (decades?) and love your writing. I am so happy to read about your darling boy, who sounds like a joy to raise. Congrats to your entire family.
