Black culture theme universal, Rock says

Comedian Chris Rock is featured in the November issue of Vibe magazine, showcasing not only his talent, but just plain old-fashioned common sense. Asked why his material about black culture is embraced by white fans, Rock said: “The black experience is a universal experience, ’cause the black experience is the poor experience. A trailer park is just a project on wheels. So any poor white person knows what I’m talking about. Nobody started out rich in America. Even people that have dough can relate to the black experience because their grandfather or great-grandfather was poor.”

October issue of Latina honors Hispanic men

You can’t go wrong with either cover of the October issue of Latina. In its annual tribute to Hispanic men, the magazine produced its first-ever split cover. Politics as seen by Neeson

“In an America where the Chinese were still stereotyped as meek house servants and railroad workers, Bruce Lee was all steely sinew, threatening stare and cocky, pointed finger – a Clark Kent who didn’t need to change outfits. He was the redeemer, not only for the Chinese but for all the geeks and dorks and pimpled teenage masses that washed up at the theaters to see his action movies. He was David, with spin-kicks and flying leaps more captivating than any slingshot. He was the patron saint of the cult of the body.”

Teen star Portman is bright, careful

The actress excels in her advanced placement classes (which include calculus), takes Japanese lessons and has been accepted for early enrollment at Harvard and Yale universities.
