Lil’ Bow Wow is 13, loves basketball and has gone on tour with ‘N Sync. And when he made an appearance at Evergreen Plaza in southwest suburban Evergreen Park recently for a CD signing, more than 10,000 fans showed up. Not bad for a kid still in grammar school.
Forget about the Spice Girls. Britney Spears has real girl power. After debuting at No. 1 last month with her album ” . . . Baby One More Time,” the teenager has sold more than 800,000 copies. Surprisingly enough, the album has sold more copies each week that it has been out. Fans snapped up 230,000 copies of Spears’ debut album the week ending Feb. 14 – 50,000 more than the previous week.
When pop singer Tiffany embarked on her first tour last year, her record company used a gimmick to promote her: It sent her to shopping malls across the country where she sang to prerecorded music. Now, with a self-titled debut album that has sold 4 million copies, along with two No. 1 singles and a Top 10 hit, the 16-year-old is performing across the country with a seasoned six-piece band.
At face value, pop singer Tiffany isn’t unlike her competition. Se’s pretty, talented, has business savvy and bills herself by her first name. But unlike the majority of female vocalists, she’s only 15.
