Ironically, “Mad Money” was directed by Callie Khouri, who wrote “Thelma & Louise” and “Something to Talk About”–movies that had all the key components (compelling storyline and characters worth cheering on) that “Mad Money” is lacking.

The music rocked. A bride bonded with Superman. And the clothes weren’t bad, either. This year’s Fash Bash–Friday night at the Chicago Theatre–had all the frenetic energy that was lacking at the event’s more staid Chicago debut last year.
Queen Latifah. Hip-hop star, actress, talk show hostess, author and fashion diva. At 5-feet-9 3/4 inches (and none-of-your-business pounds), the personable artist and star of a Lane Bryant ad campaign is the host of this year’s Fash Bash.
In her first book, rap star-turned-actress Queen Latifah, candidly writes about her steady rise to fame, her close-knit family and and how she treated her grief with alcohol and drugs after her brother died in a motorcycle accident. At 173 very short pages (the type is huge and the margins generous), readers are entertained and, to a certain extent, enlightened. But they never get the feeling that they have gotten to know the artist.
At 19, Queen Latifah was the first female solo rapper to have a major label record deal. Four years later, she had crossed over into acting with roles in Spike Lee’s “Jungle Fever” and her own Fox sitcom, “Living Single.”
When an actor plays his role so well that his buddy’s mom refuses to speak to him, he knows he has done his job. “After the screening of `Juice,’ my mother couldn’t even look at Tupac (Shakur, who plays Bishop), much less speak to him,” said Khalil Kain, whose character, Raheem, has a tragic falling out with his friend Bishop. “Even though that’s an irrational feeling, I certainly understand it. Certain scenes between Bishop and Raheem were intense even for me, and I knew how everything was going to turn out.”
