Who’s the fat, little, unintelligible man? It’s not PSY, that’s for sure

There’s not much I can add to this that hasn’t already been said. But, the Beavis and Butt-head part of me couldn’t help but chuckle when I saw that the doctor’s last name was Ablow. The fact that two old men who know next to nothing about music are critiquing and dismissing an “unintelligible” song because they can’t understand it. Wow. Just wow.

It’s one thing if the average Joe said that. But they’re saying this on something that’s supposed to pass for a news show. How could no one have done any research on this? The average 10-year-old could tell you the song is not sung in English, because PSY is singing in Korean. Because he’s Korean. And he recorded the song for the Korean market.

The average 10-year-old may not have known that PSY is a big star in Korea, with a dozen years of experience under his belt, and is an entertainer who’s quite famous for his stage shows. But O’Reilly should’ve. Any journalist worth his salt could’ve found this out with minimal research.

As for taking potshots about PSY’s looks—dismissing him as a fat, little man… O’Reilly and Ablow must think they share Hugh Jackman’s genetics. Otherwise, they would’ve realized they were the pot calling the kettle black.

PSY’s command of the English language is quite impressive, considering it’s not his first language. What’s O’Reilly’s (and Ablow’s) excuse?

  1. They’re trolls. I don’t think they even believe half of what they say. They’re entertainers providing extreme, outrageous commentary to get ratings. Trying to discuss it intelligently is…. well. It’s not journalism.

  2. Well, I’m fairly sure that they realize he’s singing in a foreign language, which is somehow more insulting because basically they’re saying anything not said in English has no real “deep thought or real feeling”

  3. It’s typical O’Reilly racist blather. “A little fat guy from ‘Yong-Yang or some place”? Really O’Reilly? You have to stoop to that? “They doesn’t look like him”. Ok, but I’m guessing O’Reilly more fits the “little fat guy” description than PSY. Ablow, when asked if there’s anything “wrong” with PSY’s video: “That you use something to transport you away from real thought and deep feeling, yeah, there’s something wrong with it”. Wow, that doesn’t sound too good for those who watch O’Reilly’s show.

  4. OMG! How STUPID do you have to be in order to be Bill O’Reilly and this silly-ass doctor with him–?! First of all, they have to be the only people on a cable news channel in the WORLD who are smugly unaware that “Gangnam Style” is IN KOREAN. Further, this so-called “meaningless” video is a total send-up, with more mockery and satire per frame than a “Weird Al” Yankovic video! It’s more hilarious the more you know about it, which all came out just a few months ago. Where do these jackasses spend their time! And don’t think that this was done before we knew all that; they did this just a few DAYS ago.

  5. I’m Korean and I hate this song. O’Reilly’s obvious ignorant views and comments about Asian males is one of the reasons. I also hate the fact that anytime there’s an Asian Male making a splash as a somewhat celebrity in the states, their identity becomes the butt of jokes towards Asian American Males like myself. I also hate the fact that there’s more people like O”Reilly out there that think they’re not ignorant. Sort of like the American guys who date Asian women and think they’re open minded. No it doesn’t mean you’re open minded it means you’re not blind. All Asian Males have been called Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan, William Hong, Jeremy Lin, and now PSY. Had a woman ask me at a Halloween party if I’m Gangnam Style. I asked her what is she talking about. Then she said she loved the “lyrics”, I responded by asking her if she’s fluent in Korean. Awkward silence, this is the type of ignorance that still applies to Asian American Males. Not because it’s hate driven, but because it’s the superiority complex that Americans have over Asian Countries. This song to me is just like any other stupid Pop song. It defiles women and pretty much he’s telling chicks this is how he rolls. The explanation given by Ablow appears to be somewhat accurate to me as you can apply his explanation of the song to a lot of songs that are “popular”. However listening to O’Reilly mock a person because of their name, where they are from, his stature, and language he is speaking tells me he’s an idiot. If he would have the same response for any artist he would be labeled a racist. I remember when Jeremy Lin was becoming more and more popular and ESPN had a headline that read “Chink In The Armor”, this was not meant to be racial or hate driven, but it was pure ignorance. Maybe O’Reilly can do us all a favor by trying to decipher half the songs in the top 20 charts, not just this one. Sure his BFF Justin Bieber would really appreciate it.
