Marion Bartoli just won Wimbledon. Too bad she’s not “hot” enough

This is Marion Bartoli. As in the elite athlete who became a Wimbledon champion over the weekend. Shame on her for not being attractive enough. After all, female athletes aren’t worthy to compete in anything unless they’re pretty enough for the spectators to ogle, right?

You don’t think so? The internets were abuzz after her win. There was a contingent of enraged men who were appalled that someone who wasn’t a supermodel actually won.

Even the BBC broadcaster John Inverdale said as much when he announced, “Do you think Bartoli’s dad told her when she was little, ‘You’re never going to be a looker, you’ll never be a [Maria] Sharapova, so you have to be scrappy and fight’?”

Yes. That sounds exactly like something that a physician would tell his daughter — who also happens to have the IQ of a genius.

In summary: Women have to be able to play sports as well as men, but they should only be shown in public if they look like runway models, who don’t actually exhibit any visible signs of their strength. Everyone knows that muscles on women are icky. Ewww.

So, be sure to tell all the female athletes in your life that being attractive is more important than being a winner.

Oh wait. Bartoli not only is a great athlete, but she also happens to be very beautiful.

And about those sexist couch potatoes who were sooooo offended by her looks that they couldn’t stop themselves from making these horrible tweets? Well, they were probably just hungry.

So, my suggestion to these sad, pathetic losers is to get off your collective butts and mosey on into the kitchen. Those sandwiches aren’t going to make themselves, you know.

  1. I’m confused, I see a pretty woman with a very nice smile & very inviting eyes. I’d feel comfortable asking her out. (If I were single & half my age of 52)

  2. Wonderful to have a couple of tennis players who seemed to be lovely people and for whom you didn’t need ear plugs to cut out the screeching. Loved Marion Bartoli’s completely frank and off the wall interviews. Breath of fresh air. Oh and whilst I’m on Wimbledon, ANDY MURRAY..FANTASTIC!!!!!!!!!

  3. Agreed 1000%! The BBC commentators should be ashamed of themselves. Bartoli’s game is as eclectic as herself — her response was just perfect:

“It doesn’t matter, honestly. I am not blonde, yes. That is a fact. Have I dreamt about having a model contract? No. I’m sorry. But have I dreamed about winning Wimbledon? Absolutely, yes.”
