THROWBACK THURSDAY | That’s Elton John and me. You’re probably wondering why I look like that.
No? You’re not? Well, pretend you’re interested ’cause you know I love to tell a good story. 😉
I was at a record release party for him (back when they were actually records, rather than CDs even) and he was taking pictures with fans. I was off to the side observing. He must’ve mistook me for a fan, ’cause he grabbed my arm and put his arm around me, smiled that smile et voila! Just as I was about to say, “Hi,” he kind of just shoved me aside so he could take a photo with the next person in line.
It was all optimized to meet and (kinda sorta) greet as many people as possible.
But, yeah, in my right hand, I was holding my briefcase (yes, I carried a hardcase briefcase like your grandfathers). And when he pushed me aside, I got off balance and my briefcase swung and hit him in his nether regions.
I’ll bet he’ll always remember me…
BTW, I’m wearing one of my favorite jackets. It was part of my father’s suit that he no longer wore. I still have it.
